Operations Superintendent / Cape Town / Permanent / Full Time / Non EE/AA

Well established Shipping Company in Cape Town is looking for an experience Operations Superintendent.

Duties include:

Prepares and maintains a list of vessels and Ops tasks required
Send detail of discharge info to Imports and partners within 2 hours of receipt and ensure ICL’s are passed
Keep all relevant parties updated and aware of ETA’s and stacks dates of all vessels at all times
Provide regular weather updates especially where inclement weather is expected including analysis and observations of possible impact to SIN Ops and Scheduling as well as local Ops Team. Update local team as necessary when weather will impact operations
Handle all queries diplomatically and timeously
Nominate and update port of vessel details at all times
Ensure ISPS info reaches MRCC and SAMSA 96 hours before ETA
Ensure PSO/PFSO is updated for vessels at all times
Send forecast information to partners and principals at the prescribed intervals
Keep control of GP equipment in conjunction with EMD Department
Keep control of Reefer equipment in conjunction with EMD Department in the absence of Reefer Supervisor
Open and maintain a clear and detailed file for each vessel’s operation
Report weekly to EMD in respect of Import containers expected to turn in to depots
Ensure partners stay within their Export load allocations
Ensure bookings/loadings are within our allocations on partner vessels following guidelines on laden and empty allocations.
Ensure vessels adhere to local laws and regulations
Ensure Port Health grant Free Pratique to vessels arriving from Deep Sea within 48 hours
Prepare and submit the appropriate papers for the abovementioned departments in order to clear a vessel in and out of our Port
Maintain and foster relationships with clients and suppliers
Get vessel C/O to stamp and sign for all work carried out for them
Get vessel C/O to stamp and sign acceptance of all instructions given to them
Handle claims and queries in a pro-active and efficient manner
Supply both provisional and final Terminal departure reports, to be submitted in the prescribed time of 48 hours to Principles and Ports of Discharge
Assist other departments in any reasonable way required
Arrange quotations as and when required
Deal with all vessel husbandry issues
Attend Industry, CLOM (DUR not CPT) SAASOA meetings
Finalised load list to be sent to SINGAPORE asap after vessel sails and not exceeding 5 days
Update and enhance Movement Book
Code invoices accurately and obtain credits or refunds where applicable
Ensure Reefers are checked prior to sailing
Be able to convert upload and import data into the relevant operating systems
Supply detailed schedule information to clients as and when required
Check quality of information received from Freight and other departments before supplying to ship or Principal
Assist in Exports when necessary (Should rather be EMD)
Provide Reefer Manifest to Vessel Operator, Master and PPECB
On vessel sailing, provide relevant utilisation report update.

CORE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Matric + 5 years shipping experience
Fully computer literate
Excellent knowledge of TNPA, Immigration, ISPS and Customs regulations
Understanding of PPECB regulations and codes
Conversant with Load/Transship, Plan Master Navis
Familiar with Ships Husbandry and Cargo Ops
